Triple Peaks Print
A beautiful print of the iconic trio of Hawke's Bay mountains.
Hawke’s Bay’s famed Triple Peaks comprise Kohinerākau (Mt Erin), Mt Kahurānaki and the iconic Te Mata Peak. According to legend, Kahurāniki and Kauehei were vying for Kohinerākau's favour. Te Mata was asked to decide who was worthy of Kohinerākau's hand in marriage. Over the course of his decision, Te Mata fell in love with Kohinerākau himself. He decided Kahurāniki was to stay closest to Kohinerākau, but he had to be separated from her by the Tukituki river. He could look but not touch. Kauehei was able to remain on the same side of the river but was moved 15 kilometres to the south so was also out of reach. Meanwhile, Te Mata o Rongokako remained in permanent contact with Kohinerākau with the other two Maunga looking on in longing and in betrayal.
